It will provide an overview of science of materials, concentrating on the major classes of materials used in dentistry including polymers, metals, ceramics and composites.

MISSION OF DEPTARMENT OF DENTAL MATERIALS SCIENCE
To enhance the activity of dental students, who possess the required values and aptitude, with core material knowledge and aligned the practical skills which covers the chemical, physical and biological properties of dental materials that are clinically relevant to the practice of general dentistry. Biocompatibility of materials needs to be dealt in terms of the clinical implementation and the availability according to the requirement of the community.

The Department of Dental Materials Science at the Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences strives to pioneer and develop a culture of imparting the knowledge of materials education in an innovative, friendly and professional environment to all prospective graduates. The overall mission of the department is to instil a sense of competence in future research with respect to identifying the different types of dental materials in the market, their selection and manipulation based on their properties and clinical performance.
